Miki Kolobara
Miki Kolobara is the Managing Attorney at Kolobara Law Firm, LLC. Miki
practices in commodities and derivatives trading law with particular
emphasis on energy trading, energy risk management, and energy trading
compliance. Prior to founding Kolobara Law Firm, Miki spent 15 years working
for several large energy companies where he assisted in creating and
implementing trading policies and procedures, drafting standard trading and
credit documentation, and training front and middle office personnel about
legal and compliance aspects of energy trading. He has negotiated hundreds
of master agreements and documentation for physical and financial
transactions, as well as structured transactions for natural gas,
electricity, coal, crude oil, and emissions allowances.
Miki serves on the Futures and Derivatives Law Committee of the American Bar
Association, as well as the North American Energy Standards Board's
contracting committee where he participated in drafting the NAESB standard
master agreement for natural gas trading. Additionally, Miki is active in
the International Energy Credit Associations' Contracts and Legal committee
and its Dodd-Frank Act working group. As a member of the WSPP contracting
committee, Miki participated in drafting of the WSPP standard master
agreement for electricity trading. Miki is a frequent
speaker on topics
related to energy trading, hedging, risk management, and compliance.
Miki received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Law
College in 1996 and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska at
Omaha in 1992. Miki was admitted to practice in Arizona in 2004 and in Nebraska in 2016.
Brenda Kolobara
Brenda
Kolobara is a Managing Attorney at Kolobara Law Firm, LLC. Brenda’s practice
is focused on energy transactions and contract disputes laws, with
particular emphasis on energy public utilities, load-serving entities, and
local distribution companies. Prior to joining Kolobara Law Firm, Brenda was
a commercial business litigation partner at a large firm in Phoenix,
Arizona, and a litigation associate at a large national law firm.
In her prior large firm practice, Brenda effectively drafted and argued
procedural, substantive and dispositive motions made in federal and state
courts. She successfully mediated numerous cases and negotiated favorable
settlements. Brenda has significant work experience with in-house counsel on
case management and litigation strategy, including considerable work on
litigation budgets, reporting, and cost-management policies and procedures,
as well as collaborating on comprehensive risk management issues.
Brenda has extensive experience with alternative contract dispute
resolution, energy project finance, risk management and compliance matters.
Brenda advises municipal and public power and gas utilities on various
transactional, risk management, and compliance matters. Brenda also has
extensive experience in identifying, assessing and auditing regulatory
compliance risks associated with all aspects of enterprise operations.
Brenda’s compliance experience includes developing policy and procedures and
directing policy governance efforts.
Brenda received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Law
College in 1997 and her Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) from the
University of Nebraska in 1993. Brenda was admitted to practice in Arizona
in 1997 and in Nebraska in 1998.
